Caran De Winn was a squire under the service of King Edward III of England. He was formerly a captain in the Royal Navy, and on August 1, 1341, he was granted the land of Chapelvale for bravery during the capture of the French fleet at the Battle of Sluys. Future descendants include: Jim Winn, Captain Rodney Winn, and Edmond De Winn.
