The 2007 Bank Of America 500 was a Nextel Cup (now Sprint Cup) event held at Lowe's Motor Speedway on October 13, 2007. If the track was nicknamed the Beast of the Southeast, that creature was really a gremlin. Strange events put Jeff Gordon into the lead with forty-eight laps to go following Jimmie Johnson's spin. But even then, Gordon couldn't avoid fuel issues that nearly allowed Ryan Newman to win. But Newman's subsequent crash again put Gordon in front to stay, holding off Clint Bowyer in a dramatic green-white-checkered. Gordon took the points lead by 68 points on Johnson, who finished 14th despite late vapor lock issues. Stats
