  • Cian Bolger joined Rovers initially on a month's loan from Leicester City in the middle of January 2011. He is a central defender who came through the academy system at Leicester, and hadn't made any senior appearances by the time he moved to Bristol, but had picked up The Foxes' academy player of the year award in 2009. He played four times during his first month, and although he scored an own goal and was sent off in that period his loan was extended for a second month. He played twice more after his loan extension, but was sent back to Leicester on 16 March. Both Byron Anthony and Danny Coles had become available for selection by this point after having been injured, so it was felt there was no need to Bolger to remain. A second move to Rovers followed for the duration of the 2011–12 season. For the duration of this spell Bolger was a regular in the starting lineup, making 38 starts and one substitute appearance in the league, following which he earned a call up to the Republic of Ireland under-21 squad for matches against Denmark and Italy in late May and early June 2012. He joined Rovers for a third time on loan at the end of August 2012, Leicester agreeing to a four month long stay, but he was limited to just three league appearances and one in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy thanks to him being injured and unavailable for selection for the majority of his stay. Following his return to Leicester early in 2013, Rovers boss John Ward made an offer to sign him permanently, but this was rejected by The Foxes.
