The camouflaged blade is a variation of the energy sword which utilizes modified active camouflage technology in order to be more stealthy during assassination missions. The camo does not turn the sword invisible, but rather will only change to the color black, allowing the user to see the blade so he does not hurt himself, but also allowing him to remain unseen while he lurks in the shadows. The idea was thought up when it came to notice that the dim glow of an energy sword would often reveal sangheili in the shadows, especially during some spec ops missions when stealth was of the essence.

The idea was thought up when it came to notice that the dim glow of an energy sword would often reveal sangheili in the shadows, especially during some spec ops missions when stealth was of the essence. The camouflaged blade is a weapon created by the covenant separatists, and as such was only found in a very few missions in the time period prior to the great schism. The first recorded Sangheili to receive one of these swords was Anro 'Cinatee, when he was given this deadly weapon shortly after he joined their ranks. After several field tests made by several different sangheili, the weapon was deemed impractical due to the massive drain on energy, which causes the weapon to last a very short amount of time before running out. The sword had the camo system installed in its hilt, running directly to the blade of the sword. This allowed the hilt to stay visible, so the sword would not be lost entirely. While directly in the sunlight, due to an unexpected glitch in the camo system, the blade glows an empty, throbbing white.
