This is the 1986 NCAA Division III Men's Hockey Championship. This is the third time the event was held. In 1990 the appearance and statistics for Plattsburgh State (and its' players) were later vacated by the NCAA Committee on Infractions, due to violations of NCAA rules by the school's hockey program. The Bemidji State Beavers coached by R.H. "Bob" Peters won the tournament. The championship game was attended by 2,047 at the Beavers' home rink, the John S. Glas Field House.
