They were bred, trained, and medicated to be highly loyal to her – a condition referred to as being a jeeves on Jackson's Whole. The medical treatments were halted when Rish, the second-youngest, was fifteen years old because the Baronne feared that they might pine away and die if they were separated from her. Udine and Shiv regarded the Jewels as part of their family, not just as genetically engineered servitors; nevertheless, there was never any thought of one of them inheriting the leadership of House Cordonah.
- Jewels are the outward representation of the power wielded by members of the Blood. They range from White to Black, with the darker Jewels being more powerful. Opal is considered the dividing line between the light and dark Jewels as it can be either. The Jewels act as a container for the reservoir of power possessed by the Blood, whose bodies cannot maintain holding their full strength at all times. Not all members of the Blood possess enough psychic power to wear the Jewels, however, they are still capable of basic Craft.

- Jewels also created the Mask Norns, which she dedicated to her sister Jennifer and her unborn baby, both killed in a car accident caused by a drunk driver on 31 May 1999. This breed was followed by the Mask Ettins and Mask Grendels. Shortly after, Jewels began work on a new Norn breed for C3/DS that resembled blue-colored Primrose Norns, but they were never completed. Unfortunately, after battling cancer for several years, Jewels suffered a stroke on 29 January 2001 and died a day afterwards. She was mourned by many in the community.
