The Aerial Reconnaissance Unit, referred to as the ARU, was a hexacopter used by the presenters of Top Gear during the second part of their Africa Special, that aired as the seventh and fnal episode of the show's nineteenth series. The ARU featured in the episode was claimed to have been built by Jeremy Clarkson prior to the filming of the special. The ARU is a flying device with six rotors, hence the name hexacopter, with a camera mounted between these rotors. The live feed from the camera is displayed on a monitor. The ARU is a remote controlled device. During the Africa Special the ARU was used to survey a river in Tanzania; it was flown by Richard Hammond whilst Jeremy Clarkson controlled the camera and James May viewed the footage.
