Ninsun, in Mesopotamian mythology, was the mother of King Gilgamesh. Her husband was Lugulbanda and she was a goddess in her own right; she protected livestock such as sheep and cows, animals very important to one of the earliest farming civilisations. As a daughter of Anu and Antu, her siblings were Enki, Ninlil, Nusku and Dagon.
