The Lectre was created early on in development, as a potential object that Bond would most likely collect during one of his missions. Unfortunately, it didn't find a way into any of the stages in the final version. The actual Lectre device was featured in the first-ever Bond sequel, "From Russia With Love". As a decoder, it was capable of decrypting important messages during the Cold War. Agent 007 was sent in to retrieve it from a young lady who had a strong fascination for him. Throw in some bad guys, exotic belly-dancers, powerful explosions, and a fist-fight on a passenger train, you've got yourself a box office smash.
