Lawrence Clyde Moreland (known popularly as "The Indestructible Man") was the first US Talent to manifest. He was immune to the effects of any damage to his body, encompassing radiation, cold, heat, friction, acid, and nearly every other force that would usually damage the human body. This does not include his personal effects, which were often torn to shreds, burned, etc. He enlisted as a US Navy Ensign, assigned on the "Reuben James", and manifested in November of 1941 when the "Reuben James" was sunk. Being the first US Talent, he was the subject of many tests by Section 2, as well as the object of propaganda, admiration, and hero worship during the early years of World War II.

The Talent known as Aquarius has an ongoing grudge against him, of which he is blissfully unaware. He also tends to not remember who Aquarius is, which infuriates her even more. He is described as confident with a large ego and an arrogant streak. Nevertheless, he is friends with many of the early talents, especially those who were on Talent Operation Group 1. He is particularly close to the Talents "Cien", "Vogel", "Aesgir", and Jumping Johnny.
