In 1975, the Valliant-Yedinstvo space mission occurs, in which an American astronaut and a soviet cosmonaut met in orbit over Earth, and greeted each other with a handshake. This historic event sparked a prosperous relationship between the two countries, and in 1976, the Soviet Union announced that it would start a free market reform. They continued to say that the country will become more Democratic. This was a slap in the face against Communism to China, and they denounced the Soviet Union.
