Members of Post Diaspora era space navies unofficially separated people into hyper-dogs and dirt-grubbers. A "hyper-dog" was anyone who had been in a hyper-capable starship that had crossed from hyperspace through the alpha wall back into n-space, the equivalent of crossing the planetary equator in ocean-going navies back on Earth.
