Lieutenant Olson deployed with Alpha Battery, 8th Assault Battalion during the second invasion of Europe, marching with General Smith all the way to the outskirts of Paris. Olson's battery fired thousands of rounds in support of battalion operations throughout the campaign, and earned a citation for valor covering the force's withdrawal to Bordeaux in the closing weeks of the war. Olson's battalion was one of the first to return to the US at the end of the war, and has seen action against a number of CSA raids since then. Alpha Battery's M320 Spartan self-propelled guns are equipped with laser-guided high-explosive shells, increasing their accuracy over very long distances.
