Horatio Seymour was an American politician who served as 19th President of the United States (1865 - 1873). During his period in office he made peace with the south and was initially hailed as a peacemaker. However, midway through his second term the political tide turned against him and he faced bitter battles with the Republican Congress from 1871 until the end of his term.
