The first control nexus was purchased, transported to, and erected on Yanibar in 3 BBY. Sales of aging weapons and especially the pharmaceutical ylannock had provided enough prosperity for the colony to invest in the technology. The main means of payment for the towers, though, was captured Imperial funds secured in the colony's foundation. By placing that much investment into the technology, the Council committed significant financial resources, but it was deemed necessary due to the severity of the weather. It was successful in alleviating the danger and hardship caused by the weather, but was hampered by a limited range and overuse. Lack of experience operating it as well as difficulties providing enough energy to the device meant that it was less than optimally effective.

Lack of experience operating it as well as difficulties providing enough energy to the device meant that it was less than optimally effective. Still, the improvement was marked enough that the Yanibar Governing Council approved the purchase of another center in 1 BBY, followed by one more in 1 ABY. Powered by an improved energy grid and spaced out evenly to cover the entire Tusloni Basin, the Weather Control Nexuses stabilized the climate sufficiently that agriculture could now flourish inside the refuge. As one of Yanibar's most prized possessions, the weather control nexuses were constantly protected by the Yanibar Guard, to the point where they were actually located inside Yanibar Guard bases to protect them. Outside thirty kilometers of the ring of mountains encircling the colony, the weather remained as vicious as ever and was still dangerous within ten kilometers of the mountains, though, and the Yanibar Governing Council would not approve the acquisition of more nexuses to help the Outsiders, out of fear of attracting unwanted attention to Yanibar. In response, a small group of Zeison Sha warriors would venture beyond the refuge and use their Force powers to help influence and weaken storms in the vicinity of the refuge to provide some relief to the Outsider populace. The weather control grid saw a particularly esoteric use in 5 ABY, when the Zann Consortium's forces landed on Yanibar. The weather control network was overcharged with energy and used to generate ferocious thunderstorms with winds in excess of two hundred kilometers per hour at the landing sites. Torrential rain and a flurry of lightning strikes added to the damage and misery inflicted upon the Zannist forces, costing them a quarter of their force. However, the energy required by the weather control network was very taxing and the Yanibar Guard could not operate their secondary shield relays and the weather control network—they were tied into the same inadequate energy sources. File:WC3.png After the Battle of Yanibar, modernization of the weather control network and its energy grid were made a priority. More robust capacitors were installed, as well as more powerful relay conduits for ferrying the incredible energy needs of the weather control network. Years went by and the colonists began to take them for granted, but they still maintained their stolid vigil over the colony, shielding it from the perils of Yanibar's weather. The weather control nexuses were projected to have saved thousands of lives and greatly contributed to the economic and standard-of-living increases enjoyed by Yanibar post-3 BBY. The Weather Control Nexuses were still in use in 28 ABY, albeit with minor modernizations. That year, a rogue Elite Guardian, Ariada Cerulaen, was fleeing pursuit from Elite Guardian Morgedh clan Kel'nerh when she was shot down at a weather control nexus. The nexus was active at the time, nearly killing both combatants. However, Morgedh was able to use the coruscating lightning to his advantage, incapacitating Ariada with it. However, Ariada eventually escaped Yanibar and betrayed it. A Yuuzhan Vong attack using gravitic weapons altered the orbit of one of Yanibar's moons, and the change was enough to wreak havoc on the natural weather systems, making them even more inhospitable. Fierce windstorms and frequent rain strained the weather control nexuses, and the colony was ultimately evacuated and abandoned. The weather control nexuses had allowed the Yanibar refuge to enjoy a hospitable climate amenable to habitation and agriculture for many years. The investment drastically changed life on that part of Yanibar, so while they were unable to forestall the tidally-induced devastation, they were one of most beneficial pieces of technology on Yanibar for decades.
