Nine women founded Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority on January 15, 1908. Terry was one of the sophomores who expressed interest in the sorority and was accepted without initiation. On October 30, 1908, Terry was elected treasurer of the sorority. The first initiation ceremony took place on February 11, 1909. In fall 1909, Terry was the president of the chapter. She also wrote the Alpha Kappa Alpha initiation hymn, "Hail Alpha Kappa Alpha Dear." She was also named Howard University's Class of 1910's secretary. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal arts in May 1910, with concentrations in Latin, English, French, German, political science, pedagogy, history, and chemistry.
