The Nameless one also known as the Mad God was Nalar the Midkemian Greater God of Evil. During the Chaos Wars it was he who cause the Valheru to rise up against the Lesser Gods and in turn caused the Lesser Gods to rise up against the Greater Gods. During the Chaos Wars both Ishap and Arch-Indar died so the other Gods with no way to offset his Evil nature combined their powers and banished him. They sealed him underneath a mountain of a world so vast that Midkemia would be like a pebble on its beach in another Universe and there he will remain until Ishap and Arch-Indar gain enough followers so that they can return and he can be released. He is called The Nameless one because even to imagine his name is to become his creature.

- A Nameless One was a rare Ishi that had become tainted but then cleansed of his taint by the conflict between the Lying Darkness and its own Void. The Lying Darkness tried in fact to use the weakening of the Ishiken by the Taint to take control of them. This was never completely successful. Nevertheless, once this process had changed them, they were stripped of their names and could be considered less than human. They had a hatred of all Shadowlands creatures and would attack tainted creatures mercilessly.
- This mysterious being is first mentioned during The Golden Chalice quest. A former high priest of Hyath claims him responsible for trapping the souls of those who died in the Temple of Hyath to remain there as undead. The Church of the Sun Lord denies the existence of the Nameless One and considers those who believe in him blasphemers.

* "Nameless One" is the name of protagonist of Planetscape:Torment. Creature by this name is also mentioned in Baldur's Gate 2 in description of one of the items.
* It is also the designation of the evil deity of "The Dark Eye", a german P&P RPG setting. Like in ADWR, the faith of the TDE nameless god practices demonology and necromancy, the god is "nameless" because his name must not be spoken, and it's often the greater evil that hides behind a cult of demon worshippers.
