The 1959 Hickory 250 was a Grand National (now Nextel Cup) event held at Hickory Speedway on May 2, 1959. Rather than withdraw after a airborne practice crash, Junior Johnson's pit crew repaired the damaged car and roof. Amazingly, Johnson went on to win the race, taking over late and holding off Joe Weatherly by two and a half laps. Eventual season champion Lee Petty finished 3rd. Stats
