It is later revealed that HIM was using a small puppet to control Python, and stuck needles in the doll, the needle's were labeled "Obsession" and each needle stuck in the doll would only make Rei's love for Boomer even more obsessive. Python even intended to harm Berry thinking it would bring Boomer closer to her. Since the incident, Rei still dreams about being Python.
