  • The Ionian Slipspace Drive, also know as the Warp Drive or the Ionian Drive, is a Faster Than Light mechanism installed in all Frigate Class (including civilian transport vessels) and above class ships to speedily travel around the void of space to reach distant points in the Galaxy in little time. Harnessing an exotic matter, Ionian Drives can create stable wormholes for travel between two points. These wormholes are 'tunnels' that connect the two destinations. The longer the distance, the more fuel that is required, and the longer the trip will take. Though originally meant for system to system jumps in Human space, Humans have taken a very liberal use of this device and thus created a huge market for companies willing to produce the exotic matter necessary to initiate a warp jump. The Ionian Drive was named after the Ionian Greeks who invented the first steam engine, but was unable to convince the world of it's glorious invention. The same was with this drive. Invented in the 2050's, the political situation on Earth was at a state that the initial discovery was ignored. Once it was cooled, patron nations harnessed the technology and advanced into space with their own fleets.
