By 1960, however, most of the agent's paycheck had been cut by the CIA and pocketed. Seeing that the decreased amount was not enough for him to risk his life over, he defected completely to the Soviet Union, after being turned by The Boss's former comrade, The Sorrow. He attempted to send back forged documents about the Sputnik V, although The Boss noticed an inconsistency in the document, and only discovered the full truth two years later.
