Les was a drinker in the Rovers who, along with his older mate Archie, wound up Hilda Ogden about Annie Walker's reaction to the dust created in the pub by the demolition of Elliston's Raincoat Factory and the work that would ensue for her. Hilda didn't believe them but Les swore on his grandad's life, with Archie laughingly pointing out that the old man had been buried last September. At Hilda's request, Jack Walker confirmed that his wife was on the warpath and his statement was proved a moment later when Annie thundered into the public. Les tried to placate her by saying that you could eat your dinner off the floor and Annie imperiously told Jack that he probably did!
