The Republic of the Two Canadas, often simply referred to as United Canada, was a short lived entity that existed in the 1840s. It was formed following the Canadian Revolution as a loose union consisting of Upper and Lower Canada. A transitional committee was created to elaborate new institutions but faced many problems such as choosing a site for the national capital. A temporary solution measure taken was to have parliament of the republic moves every sitting between Quebec and Toronto.
