On one occasion, Larken told Tico she was "forced" by Batista to be with him because she feels Tico is a little "underperforming" between the sheets, calling him "Mrs. Jai-Alai", and claiming he liked boys better. Tico snapped and began choking Larken, to the point she "died", after which Batista told him to leave and to say nothing, but in reality she taped and photographed the entire incident to use as blackmail for Frank Arriola to turn over the customs codes or the tapes/photos will be sent to the police. Larken later was killed by Batista's goons, but Tico felt the weight of the "murder" over him, becoming distant to his brother (who raised them both from age 11 due to their parents' death) and getting distracted on the jai-alai cancha. During one match, seeing police there to pick him up for the murder, he is distracted long enough for the pelota (the ball used in jai-alai) to hit him in the head, fatally injuring him. Before he dies, he manages to tell Vice detective James "Sonny" Crockett about the tape and Batista.
