The blackout world glitch is a glitch in Final Fantasy VII. After receiving the Highwind, while flying around the world map at any point in the game, the edge of the screen on either side or in front of the airship will appear black as the player approaches it. Attempting to fly through or past will cause the Highwind to collide and vibrate slightly as if it were trying to fly past an immovable object. Often, the entire screen will black out afterwards, while the music continues to play. The sole remedy to this glitch is to restart the game.

The blackout world glitch is caused by an error with the Final Fantasy VII game disc, as shortly after blacking out, the screen will display a miniature replica of a Sony PlayStation with a question mark displayed over the disk reader, suggesting there was an error in reading the disc. This does not happen in the game's PC version.
