The Season began with Hurricane Anita, A Category-2 hurricane which skirted the Carolinas at peak intensity. While Isabella was making landfall in New York City as a Category-2 hurricane, Jose was causing heavy rain and gale force winds in the Azores. Ophelia became one of many Category-5 storms, the previous ones being Misty and Gwen. Ophelia's 180 mph winds caused major damage to Mexico and several places in the Caribbean.
