  • Scouting is when a club sends a scout to watch a certain to player or team in order to gain information about them. Scouts are usually sent to watch a player with a view to buying that player in the future. Scouts are usually sent to watch teams that will be opponents in the near future so as to gain information about their strengths and weaknesses, how they play and which of their players may be dangerous. Scouting has been a feature of almost every FM/CM game and included in more detail than ever in Football Manager 2008.

  • A unit's Scouting level can be either II or III (2 or 3) - denoting the exact extent of the Sight Range given by this ability. This wiki refers to "Scouting II" simply as "Scouting", and "Scouting III" is rendered as "Scouting 3". Five Normal Units and three Heroes possess the Scouting ability. Two of these (Greyfairer the Druid and Rakir the Beastmaster) have Scouting 3. There is no known spell or effect that can add Scouting to a unit or improve its existing Scouting level. It seems that Scouting may have been intended to extend a unit's Sight Range by the given number of tiles, but in practice it sets the unit's Sight Range to the given value instead. Since File:Icon Movement Air.png gives a Sight Range of 2 tiles already, five of the units possessing Scouting get no benefit at all from this ability. Only the three Heroes with Scouting actually get a benefit to their Sight Range.
  • Many people, like author Tim "I know more than you know about yourself" Jeal, have made a bucket-load of money by writing books that say that Baden-Saunders was just a closet gay who probably wanted to sleep with uniformed boys in cold, damp fields. Although there is not even the slightest evidence of this at all these comments prove popular, especially on some cheap website called Wikidpeadoia, because the American branch of Scouts is really, really homophobic and it winds them up no end. In Europe many of the Scouts were later destroyed by Hitler and his legion of Nazi Zombies. Now the French, Belgian and Dutch Scouts are mainly homeless orphan children who scam food off the goverment by joining scouts camps. Packs of cannibalistic Scouts have been seen roaming the streets of Copenhagen, feeding on residents os Christainia and drunken Swedish tourists. In Canada a similar organisation exists, known as Scoots.

  • Jim Henson was a Cub Scout. As a child, the den meetings were held at his house, with his parents serving as Den leaders. “[The den] got together at Jimmy's house where Betty Henson served them pecan pie and milk and told them about the moral obligations of the Cub Scouts. She taught them about the value of physical activities and fair play. The boys liked to meet at Jimmy's house for their den meetings because the Hensons were so friendly.” Chapter four of the book Jim Henson: Young Puppeteer, entitled "Cub Scout Projects with Puppets", describes Henson's time as a Cub Scout in some detail. The book shares an extended story from Henson’s Scouting experience in which each of the Scouts in Henson's den was challenged to come up with, and carry out, a major project of his own invention. Henson, with the help of fellow Scout Gordon Jones, developed a distinctive comedy act. Jones told stories with his hands behind his back, while Henson, crouching behind Jones, supplied the latter's arm gestures by extending his own arms through his fellow Scout's armpits. The act was an instant success and showed Henson's early creative thinking, along with his tendencies to explore the boundaries of creative performing and puppetry techniques. Due to the response to Henson's hand act, the following year Henson was asked by the new Den leaders to help organize and lead the entire den in putting on a puppet show. Henson got the entire den involved in putting on the show, and many of his fellow Scouts say Henson "got his start working with puppets in Leland’s Cub Scouts". Although nobody recalls what the shows, which featured homemade puppets, were about, everyone remembers the games that Jim and the Scouts played when they had free time. Richard Hunt was also involved in the Scouting movement; he was a Boy Scout while growing up in Closter, New Jersey. According to Jane Hunt, Richard would bring some of his puppets (which he'd bought with money earned through his after-school paper route) to Scout meetings and put on shows for the troop. Several Muppet characters belong to fictional Scouting groups - including the Frog Scouts, Worm Scouts and Bear Scouts.
