The 2007 Sharpie 500 was a Nextel Cup (now Sprint Cup) event held at Bristol Motor Speedway on August 25, 2007. Carl Edwards, whose car was terrible in the spring event, found the new surface to his liking, holding off Kasey Kahne by more than a second for Edwards' second victory of the year. Points leader Jeff Gordon ran in the top-five for the first 250 laps but was terrible after that, finishing 19th to have his points lead go to 349 points on Tony Stewart (4th). With two races to go until the Chase for the Nextel Cup, Kurt Busch (6th) had a 158-point cushion on Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (5th) for the cutoff line.
