Gloomy Gulch is the fifth area of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and the fourth in Donkey Kong Land 2. The area, as the name suggests, is quite gloomy, scary, aged, etc., and so are most of the stages in this area. The stages often have ghost-like enemies, though the usual Klomps and the like are found as well. There is also a stage in this world, Haunted Hall, which was remastered into Krazy Koaster, an amusement park stage in Donkey Kong Land 2. This happened because of the Game Boy's graphical limitations and being unable to support the sprites for Kackle.

  • The Gloomy Gulch is a small but very spooky ravine located at the Crocodile Isle just beyond the Krazy Kremland outside its territory and one of the many known locations in the Donkey Kong universe. As its name suggests, this wilderness is dark and creepy and isolated, filled with dead trees and endless fog. It is inhabited by an array of ghosts such as Kloaks and Kackles as well as living Kremlings such as Klomps. Within these woods are a small Zinger Hive where , and a mansion-like library (often called the "Haunted Hall"). Since this place is really high up, there are strong winds strong enough to blow such unwary gravelers around.

Since this world is really high up, there are strong winds strong enough to blow Diddy and Dixie around.Gloomy Gulch is shown to be a small world. In Donkey Kong Land 2, everything is the same about Gloomy Gulch with no additional changes, except that if the Kongs complete the world, there is a Klubba's Kiosk on the left side of Gloomy Gulch and that Haunted Hall is replaced by Krazy Koaster. This world, along with the rest of Crocodile Isle, rises out of the ocean and back on land. This world has three forest levels, one coaster level (taking place in a library in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest or at an amusement park in Donkey Kong Land 2), and one hive level.

In Donkey Kong Land 2, Gloomy Gulch, along with the rest of Crocodile Isle, is resurrected from beneath the oceans. Also, a new level called Krazy Koaster replaces Haunted Hall as the Game Boy was unable to support Kackle, as well as it's system and graphical limits. At the end of the game, K. Rool's bulk in the Lost World sinks it, and the rest of Crocodile Isle itself once again.

Diddy and Dixie Kong traversed and braved the horrors and dangers of Gloomy Gulch before entering a crow's nest (sometimes called "crow next" by some) at the end of this forest which landed them both in a battle with Kreepy Krow whom they defeated before they move forward onto the castle at the top of Crocodile Isle.
