- These sites, all of which seemingly vanished with the fall of Mondain, possessed a number of strange qualities, and often had the power to increase the Stranger's skills and abilities. Each major continent of the world possessed two such places, usually situated on isles off of the mainland. Whatever powers a "sign post" possessed would disappear after the initial invocation, but would become refreshed once the explorer who visited them traveled to another "sign post" elsewhere.
- The landmarks that come with the game are based on real structures, usually to scale. The first SimCity title to include landmarks was SimCity 3000, and since then, landmarks have been included in every title, some new, some updated.
- Landmarks are special buildings, often inspired or copied from the real world, which provide positive effects for your city, mainly through increaseing Environmental satisfaction and Quality of Life (via the so-called Landmark effect). Unlike Megastructures, Landmarks are plop-able buildings which are constructed normally. However, they also are limited to one of each kind per city, so you need to choose carefully where you put each one so as to make maximum use of its Landmark effect.
