The PC-8801 (shortened to PC-88) is an 8-bit personal computer made by NEC and originally intended for business use. Though it was the lead computer in Japan, it was followed closely by it's main competitors, the X1 and FM-7. It was later succeeded by the more powerful PC-98, which cemented NEC's position as the lead computer manufacturer in Japan.

As far as games go, the PC-88 saw the birth of various series such as Dragon Slayer and Ys as well as prolific companies such as Enix and Hudson. However, it couldn't hold a candle to the X1 and FM-7, so if a game on it was also released for one of the other two, the X1/FM-7 version would be the better one of them.
