  • A curfew can be one of the following: 1. * An order by a government for certain persons to return home daily before a certain time. It can be imposed to maintain public order (such as those after the 2003 North America blackout and 2005 civil unrest in France), or suppress targeted groups (such as was enacted on Jewish people during the regime of Nazi Germany). Curfews have long been directed at certain groups in many cities or states, such as Japanese-American university students on the West Coast of the United States during World War II, African-Americans in many towns during the time of Jim Crow laws, or people younger than a certain age (usually within a few years either side of 18) in many towns of the United States since the 1980s; see below. Some jurisdictions have also introduced "daytime curfews" that would prevent high school-age youth from visiting public places during school hours or even during immediate after-school hours. 2. * An order by the legal guardians of a teenager to return home by a specific time, usually in the evening or night. This may apply daily, or is separate per occasion (especially concerning dating), or varies with the day of the week (earlier on a so-called school night, i.e., if the minor has to go to school the next day). 3. * A daily requirement for guests to return to their hostel before a specified time, usually in the evening or night. Arriving later has the consequence of being locked out until the morning. It allows the hostel to dispense with a doorman during the night, and improves quietness at night. 4. * In baseball, a time after which a game must end, or play be suspended. For example, in the American League the curfew rule for many years decreed that no inning could begin after 1 A.M. local time. 5. * Many airports operate with rules that during certain times, the airport will be effectively closed, to facilitate noise restrictions in areas under the airports flight paths. Examples include LaGuardia Airport in New York City, and Kingsford Smith International Airport in Sydney, Australia. The practice is commonly known as an Operating Curfew, or Movement Restriction.

Students, including Jimmy, are supposed to be inside their dorms before curfew. After curfew starts, the prefects patrol the school grounds with flashlights, and the police roam the streets also with flashlights. If Jimmy is busted on school grounds, he will be sent to the Boys' Dorm, if he's busted off school grounds, he'll be dropped off at the front gates of the school. All students, girls included, can be busted for violating curfew. If Jimmy is wearing the black ninja outfit, however, he can be out after curfew without getting into trouble, but will still pass out at 2 a.m. Curfew does not affect adults, meaning they can be out all the time without getting in trouble. Most students respect curfew and go to bed on time. In fact, students can be found wearing their pajamas inside the dorms if it's late enough. In a few places where authority figures don't often go, students will break curfew - Jocks can be sometimes be seen on the football field after curfew. During curfew, the school grounds are quiet and the player can barely see any students walking around. Strangely, The Townies excluding Zoe can be seen on the streets after curfew. The Police will not attempt to bust them despite the Townies still being minors.

"I don't even have a curfew, that is not fair."YES IT IS SAID MOM" I have to come home straight after school. I get in trouble all the time for coming home late, but it's not my fault if I don't have a curfew And once I asked my mom for a curfew and she said to be home at 5:30, I mean be serious that's the time I get home from after school!" said Angela Ortiz (14).
  • In The Sims 3, a curfew is given to children and teenagers to remind them that they need to go home. A child's curfew is 10:00 PM and a teen's is 11:00 PM. Curfew can't be disabled in any legitimate way, but it does not apply if the child or teen is accompanied by a young adult, adult, or elder. This allows objects such as tents to be used. Teens will be brought home by the police if they stay out past their curfew. If children stay out past their curfew, they will not be brought home by the police. Instead, they will automatically go home or to the nearest adult family member. This action cannot be canceled. If Generations is installed and a child or teen has the Rebellious trait, the chance of the police rounding the child / teen up is significantly lower. For The Sims 3 for Windows and Mac OS X (Does not work in Console Versions) No Curfew Police is a mod that changes the way the curfew feature works. When a teenager is out during curfew, it gives the pertaining moodlet until a police officer catches the Sim or the teen goes home. When he is caught, he cannot run away from the officer (unless using the testingcheatsenabled true cheat and deleting the officer, Windows and Mac OS X only) and the Sim gets a negative moodlet and a scolding from an Adult (that is able to be canceled) on the home lot. To prevent getting caught by the curfew, use the "go here with..." action to have teens and children visit a community lot with an adult family member, and try not to stray to lots where it is more difficult for the adult to follow. This is useful when a Sim is trying to gain collectibles or is fishing away from home. If a Sim is at the graveyard mourning a dead family member, he or she doesn't get the positive moodlet for being out after curfew and won't be rounded up while mourning. As soon as the Sim stops mourning, he or she can be rounded up. In The Sims 3 for console and Generations, children can violate curfew in the same fashion as teenagers.
