During the 2005-6 General Election, Lori-Ann Martino abruptly resigned from the Green Party, in the middle of the election campaign. Martino resigned from the Green Party of Canada because she disagreed with Jim Harris' opposition to a sustainable seal fishery in Atlantic Canada.
