| - La Garonne (en occitan Garona) est un grand fleuve français et un peu espagnol qui coule sur 647 km.
- The Garonne is a river, the headwaters are in the Pyrenees Mountains bordering France and Spain. It combines with the River La Dordogne at the Gironde Estuary which empties into the Bay of Biscay on the southwestern coast of France northwest of Bordeaux. This was the scene of the cutting out expedition of the Papillon. Coordinates: 45°2'29"N 0°36'24"W
- La Garonne est, selon les fabulistes et autres afabulateurs, un fleuve.
- The Garonne is the river of Aquitaine, she rises in the Spanish Pyrenees from three sources, which all claim to be the one: the glacier of Maladetta, in Guells de Joeu (eye of Jove) near Vielha or on the Pla du Beret, which leads us to the secret of sources. As children we Swiss boys said to the Germans: if you don't behave we'll simply hold our hands to the source of the Rhine and close it, then you'll see all your silly ships in Duisburg going on ground! Claudio Magris tells us about the source of the Danube, that he walked upwards the small creek until he came to a wet meadow, on top of this was a farmhouse with a dripping tap on the wall.....

Well, Garonne takes some 525 km to reach the sea, heading Northwest like the Elbe in northern Germany, having the same type of mouth (an estuary), with sweet water and salty water alternating and mixing with the tides. Her side rivers on the right (Tarn, Aveyron, Lot, Dordogne) are coming down from french Massiv Central, while the left sided ones (Neste, Save, Gers, Boise) are wild chaps from the Pyrenées. Not to forget Ariège, coming from the land of Cathars and reaching Garonne in Toulouse. Here's the geography The important places on its rivers are St.Gaudens, Toulouse, Marmande and the important Bordeaux. I know Garonne and Gers from the tales "The man of all colours", which are brief and sober like the rivers there.....
