- Like the King George V class a few years before, this class of five dreadnoughts meant the beginning of a new age in battleship construction. The main battery calibre was once again raised, this time to 15", and the increased size and weight of the weapons and their turrets suggested a reduction to eight barrels in four twin turrets. With the elimination of the central turret, more space was available for a power plant, and internal division and protection was facilitated. The ships of the Revenge class are akin to their half-sisters of the Queen Elizabeth class, but while these are bred for speed, the Revenge class sports heavier armour instead and is also mostly fired with the more readily available coal instead of oil.
