abstract
  • Gaharey was a term in the Devore language. It was used by the xenophobic Devore Imperium to describe people or vessels that were not part of their Imperium. It was the only word in the Devore language that the universal translator was not able to translate. Devore Inspector Kashyk translated the word as "stranger" but it had a slightly more negative connotation. It implied "outsider", a permanence which the Devore Imperium simply could not reconcile. Every time the Devore soldiers contacted the ship, they addressed Captain Kathryn Janeway on the bridge of the USS Voyager using the phrase "gaharey vessel." (VOY: "Counterpoint")
