Abandoned Heavy Factories were prefabricated building designs by Delvin Constructs that were abandoned by their owners because, when faced with necessity to move to a new location, it was cheaper for them to buy a new facility for that location rather than move an existing one. Since they required only a bit of retooling to bring them back online once claimed, it was common for field commanders to come across such buildings to produce units when needed in battle.

  • Abandoned Heavy Factory is a formerly Imperial structure that had appeared in the Star Wars: Empire at War and its expansion Forces of Corruption. This factory is a neutral building that can be captured by the infantry or heroes from both sides. Once captured, it will automatically produce Pod Walkers for free. However, every time a Pod Walker leaves the factory gates, a hostile squad of either Pirate Soldiers or Pirate Missile Soldiers will spawn and has to be defeated before any more will be built. If they have nothing else to fight, the pirates will attack the factory itself.

The pirate squads are absolutely identical in composition and power to Rebel Soldiers and Plex Missile Soldiers respectively. As such, the rebels will be fine if they have two Soldier squads standing by, with a Bacta Station to support them for protracted games. However, the Imperial players will have to have 2-3 Stormtrooper Platoons and a Bacta Station to keep it under their command. Another effective strategy for the Empire is to capture it with Mara Jade. Not only is she powerful enough to deal with many squads by herself, her Force Corrupt will affect the squads and provide you with more cannon fodder. Because of its recharge time, this ability should be prioritised for the Missile Soldiers, as they can easily destroy the Anti-Vehicle Turrets and Turbolaser Towers (as well as any stray rebel vehicles), thus paving way for your mechanised forces, including those Pod Walkers you have just produced.
