  • === Specialization - Open === * Bloomfield College, NJ-- TT US History * deadline was 3/15 * * Email requesting OAH/Phone Interview (3/24) * * Email requesting phone interview (3/30) Kalamazoo College, VAP United States History * Any news here? (4/6) * Nothing since 2/24 ack. email. (4/6) * Rejection letter (5/17) University of West Georgia/ 19th or 20th c. and Women's Hist. * * Any campus visits? (1/22) * * I assume so...had a phone interview back in mid-December, and they said they'd contact folks for campus interviews BY early January at the latest, hoping to have them on campus by late Jan. So I've already written this one off... * * Also had a phone interview in early/mid-December, and have not heard anything since. * * Ditto. No word after mid-December phone interview. Maybe they're keeping the long list in case no one on the short list works out? * * Ditto above (1/25) * * on campus interviews are happening now--someone in my program was invited, went last week (1/25)--we both had mid-Dec phone interviews. * * Does anyone reading this blog have information to report about him or herself re: a campus visit, other than hearsay from various departments? I had a mid-Dec. interview. I was told that as many as 5 people would be invited to campus, and that everyone would eventually hear one way or another. This type of first-hand info.seems to work best for the wiki (1.25) * * personally I'll take second hand information over none at all from the search committee (1/25) * * Presumably the first round of on-campus interviews did not work out as a friend was called for a second phone interview last week and subsequently invited to on-campus for next week. (2/18) * * Ditto. * * Offer was made/accepted in early March. (3/12) * University of the West Indies * Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer in History: specialism "North American History" * Startdate unspecified * Deadline: 25 June 2010 (note that's the website deadline, some adverts say 30 June 2010). * Kean University * Interviewed at the AHA, thought I'd post this listing here to see if there's been any movement on campus invites. (x2) * * A friend had a phone interview last week. * * Campus interview scheduled * Empire State College - Long Island Branch - SUNY * Has anyone heard anything? * * Nope. * * Not a word. (x3) 2/16 * James Madison University - TT asst prof in US and gender studies. * Deadline December 15 * * Any word on this? * * I had a phone interview in mid-December, but have not heard anything since. (1/17) * * Same as last post; phone interview December 16; haven't heard anything yet. (1/18) * * With phone interviews on December 16th, somehow I doubt the sincerity of the job posting's claim that applications received by December 15 would receive full consideration. (1/18) * * Phone interview December 17; haven't heard anything since. * * Worth noting that there is a VAP there who fits the description pretty well. * * They had another job in Old South. Any word on that? * * I phone interviewed for the other job and was told they were trying to make a quick hire and if I didn't hear anything by late December, consider myself out. * * Just got the standardized email from JMU HR re the Old South position. The job has been filled. Any news on who the hire is? (2/9) (x2) * * What about the modern US and gender position (or whatever it was called)? Any news there? * * I interviewed for the US/gender position in December, and just yesterday I received the same generic, snail-mail rejection letter sent to every other applicant, with no recognition or acknowledgement of the interview. And they didn't even bother to seal the envelope properly. Thanks, James Madison University, for making me feel like a real living, breathing human being, rather than a worthless cog in the vast erudition industry {sarcasm} (2/17) * * Ditto (2/17). * * Actually, I never got a letter just an email from their automated HR system! Totally worth applying there, eh? (3/2) * Nassau Community College January 11 deadline. * Interesting. What materials should we send to Dean Muth? * * SC: Good question. The standard minimum will suffice: coverletter, cv, 3 recs [SC: HR ad says "references;" rec letters ok, transcripts. Official inquires about the position and application process can be directed to our chair, Dr. Phil Nicholson ( nicholp at domain ncc.edu ) But make sure applications go to Dean Muth / Affirmative Action. * * Thanks. Also, what is the deadline? Jan. 11. SC: That hasn't been established yet; it depends how long it takes the admin before the Chronicle and NYTimes ads go out, which will also include other departments. Suffice it to say that there's no way the SC will be considering applications before the Spring semester begins in late January. * * I like this! Cut out The Chronicle altogether.... * * Anyone heard anything on this job? (2/3) * * Is this a repeat search from last year? * * I don't believe so. * * SC: (2/14) : it is going to be a while. These are 3 new searches. * * How did I get an acknowledgment for this job when I did not apply for it? * * The question is, will you take the interview if they give you one? * * Search insider, should I be alarmed if I never received an acknowledgement? Should I call HR to see if my app was received? SC: I wouldn't be surprised, but it doesn't hurt to check (contact Ann Muth's office). * * SC: (3/10): budget situation is looking grim, I'm afraid to say. But things could change by May. * Northern Arizona University; TT asst prof in history to teach undergrad in secondary social studies program * Deadline October 15 * * Anyone heard anything? * * Request for more materials (early Nov.) * * I was asked for letters of rec (which the initial application did not require--they only wanted references) in late Oct/early Nov....has anyone been asked for writing samples or materials in addition to letters? (11/23) * * Yes, I was asked for a writing sample, syllabi, etc., at the beginning of Nov. (11/30) * * Thanks but no thanks form letter 12/24 * Barnard. TT asst prof in U.S. and comparative urban history. * Deadline November 1 * * Posting is pretty sparse. Anyone have any sense of what they're looking for? * * Don't know what they're looking for, curious to know how many applied and if anyone has heard anything? (Nov 8) * * I have yet to hear anything. Would be surprised if they'd even sent acks after only a week. * * This job is also listed under Urban History * * recv'd ack (11/8) -- snail mail ack? -- yes * * Did the ack give any info about the timeframe for the search? (11/12) - No, but it does say they'll "let you know where you stand" (11/13) * * How many here applied? lots; I heard they have a room full of the applications. * * I am sure they have many applications. I was asking how many people HERE, ie participating on this wiki, applied? 14 * * Have others recv'd acks? I have yet to get one? * * I haven't gotten one either. * * It is far too early for anyone to complain that they've not received an acknowledgment letter. Your time is valuable, use it wisely. (11/15) * * Received my acknowledgment letter on Nov. 16. Applied right before the deadline. (11/18) Me too (11/18) ditto * * Any one heard anything more? (11/30) * * Still nothing? (12/4). I assume they're interviewing at the AHA? * * Anything further? Most other posts with a Nov 1 deadline have made interview calls (maybe the 12 people responding here just aren't among the interview finalists...). (12/09) * * received ack (12/11) dated 11/30, looks like the same one as others received earlier, applied just before deadline * * Do we know for sure they're even doing AHA? (2 members of the dept are presenting there, and Dorothy Ko is on the organizing committee this year, but the job ad didn't indicate). (12/13) * * Phone interview scheduled by email (12/13). * * Congratulations to poster above! (they contacted you on a Sunday??) * * Thanks. SUnday night, actually. Was surprised too. * * Good luck to above poster. Anyone else hear anything? no * * email request for phone interview (12/16) * * received email request for phone interview same as above. wondering if everyone has interviews scheduled for monday? * * mine is on monday, but my guess is that they're interviewing or have interviewed on other days as well. (just a hunch) * * i think you're right. there is long short list for only a few interview spots. its not clear to me when we will hear about campus visits. did anyone ask about that or get information about when they will notify us? * * has anyone heard back from the committee after their interview? * * No. Still pretty soon, though, right? Were interviews even completed yesterday? (12/22/09) * * Not sure...wiki lists two sets of notifications one last sunday around 12th and another on 16th... * * here's hoping they make their decisions before the holidays, while the interviews are fresh in their minds, and let us know. and thanks to everyone who's been writing here. i really appreciate that we keep each other posted on developments. (12/22) * * Ditto! The whole process is a bit nerve racking:) * * And on behalf of those of us who didn't get interviews, good luck, and thanks for updating. The ack letter said "we'll let you know where you stand as soon as we've reviewed all the applications" - still waiting on that one! Thank heavens for the wiki, ACTUALLY letting us know. * * Any word so far? Haven't heard a thing... * * Finalist just notified about campus visit. (12/23) * * Request for more materials; nothing about campus visit. (12/23) X 2 * * Form rejection letter received via snail mail (12/26) X2 * * Anyone hear anything further? (1/5) not yet (1/5) * * Nothing yet. Anyone else? Does anyone have advice about Barnard job talks? * * Nothing here, either. Starting to wonder if all invitees haven't already been contacted, especially if someone really had a campus visit arranged as early as 12/23. * * I wouldn't lose hope yet. They've only had a week since the holidays ended to review the additional materials. But I agree the waiting is rough. (1/10) * * Still no word? It's been almost a month since the request for materials. (1/19) * * No word here, but I think Barnard's spring semester started today, so hopefully, if we are still in the running, we'll get news soon. (1/19) * * Anyone know if on-campus visits have begun? (1/27) * * I haven't heard anything about anything. Seems like they must have at least contacted the short short list by now though. (1/27) * * Has anyone who had a phone interview (aside from the poster above with the campus invite) heard anything? (2/1) * * Not me, nor my colleague who also had a phone interview . . . not even a rumor. (2/3) * * 4 candidates invited to campus * * Anyone here among the invitees? * * Not sure if anyone's checking this anymore, but I was just curious how many people who got phone interviews for the Barnard job also got conference interviews for the Loyola urban history job . . . just curious how much overlap there was in the respective pools. * * Does anyone know what happened with this one? * Has this not been resolved yet? Or have people just stopped updating? Very curious about this one. (4/9) * Hired Meredith Linn, Columbia PhD, according to dept website. * Brigham Young University Open rank and field. * Deadline December 1, 2009 * * Interview scheduled (12/11) * * Rejection letter received (01/11) * University of Missouri - Columbia / Tenure-track Assistant Professor of U.S. Environmental History * Deadline October 28, 2009 * * The department will consider all applicants, but would prefer one whose scholarship is focused on the post-1850 era. * * Received a kind rejection. Isn't that an oxymoron?(11/8) * * I received a reject note four days after their deadline, one day before receiving an letter that they had received my application. I have the feeling that the hiring committee has already made their chose before the deadline. (11/12) -- Heard they met on the 29th and first reject letters were sent that day or the next. * * Heard from the proverbial friend of friend that they received sixty "good" applications that fit the field. * * Request for more material (11/11) * * Receive very nice letter - they actually acknowledged my application and have received request for more info - 11/13. * * Also received request for more information. * * Rejection letter received in Southwest (11/18) * * AHA Interview Scheduled (12/8) * * AHA interview complete. Nice folks. Waiting to hear back. Any news out there? * * They said that they would be contacting people the week after Martin Luther King Day for on-campus interviews. So I guess finalists should know that they are finalists by a week from today? * * Have been invited for campus interview. (1/21) * Ohio State University - Mansfield/ Tenure-Track position in U.S. History * Ack materials received (10/29) X 4 * * Got an email from the search committee chair today saying my file was incomplete - one of my letters probably got lost in the mail. Fortunately they're still accepting letters...but they wouldn't tell me which one was missing. I'm just going to have all of them resent, I think. * * I can't even imagine how many apps they must have received for this position considering that the more specialized openings are drawing upwards of 300. * * I heard that they got 450+ applications--I am curious as to where you received this information? I'm not disputing it, but inquiring minds want to know (11/23) * * Awesome. I'm thinking of starting up my own business: "Hey SCs! Swamped by desperate PhDs? Don't sweat it, we'll vet it!" Seasonal work only, of course.... * * I'm going to vet here since frankly more people read this page than the vetting page...schools like OSU-Mansfield should be reprimanded for not indicating any specifics about what they are looking for, and inevitably wasting a lot of people's time. We need to organize goddamit, so schools stop treating us like we are disposable. * * To previous poster: The word you seek is VENT (to let off steam), not VET (to check, to verify, as the poster above used it) * * To the poster who thinks that OSU should have provided greater specificity for the position: You apparently do not understand the nature of regional campuses in the Ohio system. Whoever gets this job will mostly be teaching survey courses. The broader the range of survey courses that person can teach (both halves U.S., both halves world, perhaps Western Civ) the better. Regional campuses in Ohio mainly provide the first 2 years of college, though that is starting to change somewhat with degree completion programs being implemented at various campuses. This is a job that requires a generalist; specific fields are not so important compared to the breadth of of the courses the candidate can offer. * * Agree with above, but OSU-Mansfield does offer a BA in history. It looks like a neat little department, and I suspect whoever lands this gig will be allowed - expected - to teach a wide variety of courses, even above the survey level. But hey, if it turns out they only want surveys, I'll give 'em surveys! * * Anyone hear anything on this one? AHA/phone? I've heard nothing either way! (x5) (12/14) * * 12/17 email (response to request), they aren't interviewing at the AHA, hope to have a phone interview list by early January. * * Alright, it's early January. And I am officially antsy. * * Invitation to interview via video conference (1/11) * * ok...you've got be kidding...video cams. sure I'll head out to the nearest radio shack and pick up the latest model so I can be *up-to-date* * * Snail mail rejection. Over 480 apps. (1/19)x5 Ditto (1/25) * * I didn't apply for this job, but here's some advice for anyone who's never done a video interview: remember to look at the camera to make eye contact and minimize the picture of yourself as much as possible to avoid being distracted by concerns about your own appearance. Good luck (if it's not too late)! And personally, I much prefer phone to video interviews, but that's probably a topic to be pursued on the discussion page. * * Offer made. * * Offer accepted (2.27) * * Hired Daniel Amsterdam, UPenn PhD * * Wasn't this a 4/4 teaching load? * * No -- 2/2/2 on quarter system. * Oklahoma State University (VAP) U.S. History, 1-3 year Appointment * received snail mail letter of receipt, states phone interviews last week of April, hope to make decision by 7 May (23 April) * 5/7 email request for phone interview (5/9) * Pennsylvania State University - Fayette Tenure-Track in American History emphasizing African-American, American Indian, or Latin-American history * Did anyone else find the deadlines for this position confusing? On one posting it is listed as October 15 and on another, February 28th. * * The deadline has been extended, which is not unusual for PSU. * * Any movement on this search? (1/4) * * Email ack and affirmative action link. (1/29) * * Whatever happened with this job? Any news sine January? (4/6) * Had an on-campus interview. An administrator passed away suddenly, so search was put on hold for awhile. (04/14) * Roger Williams University, RI -- Assistant Professor of American Studies / United States History. * I applied for this job and wondered if anyone had any information about the school or this search, etc for an old veteran of the job wars. Thanks. * * This one is also posted on American Studies, though there's no news yet there either (12/5). * * The job asks for someone in either American Studies or US history, as the department is a combined History/American Studies department. One thing I noticed about the department, judging from the website, is that it seems to conceive of American Studies as American cultural and social history and to think of history in more social science terms. (And, it's not Roger Williams College, it's Roger Williams University and has been since 1992. Most schools that make the change from college to university are pretty insistent upon that change being recognized. I hope no one applied to "Roger Williams College.") 12/5 * * Rejection letter received via email. Email said short list of candidates chosen for AHA interviews. (12/8 X2... Durn) * * Any info on how many applicants? Just curious. * * Has anyone invited for interviews been notified? I got no rejection, no news... I hate limbo. And, yes, I know that means this whole year will suck.(12/8) (x4 - on both the lack of news and the hating limbo!) * * Was the rejection email personalized, or sent to a bcc'ed list? * * It was personalized, and sent by the secretary for humanities, so they might be going out in small batches. (12/10) * * Any new news today for the people who didn't hear yesterday? (12/9) * * No news. As I'm getting a little OCD about checking this wiki, I pretty much guarantee that you will know when I do! (12/9) (x2 About the OCD) * * Email from search chair 12/9: 400 apps for the job. They are still working through all the apps and are arranging phone interviews. * * This is good to hear, but how did you get the e-mail from the chair yesterday? Did you e-mail? *Yes I emailed. Seems as if they sent out some immediate rejections (maybe to ABDs? who knows) ... but everyone else still seems to be "in the mix." The chair indicated that they were just beginning final exams etc and were really slammed, but that phone interviews would be forthcoming. * * Hmmm ... I am confused. One person above reports that a reject email says they are doing AHA interviews, another reports phone interviews? Can anyone clarify? Anyone have an interview? (12/10) * * anyone have their references requested? the original call for applicants just asked for reference contact info, not the letters themselves. (oh and if it helps, i'm abd and haven't been rejected yet...) (12/10) * * rejection email today (12/10), stating that the SC had completed the initial screening process, narrowed the applicant field, and is in the process of determining the final list of candidates to be interviewed. Good luck to the rest of you!! (x3) * * Received email informing me that I am on long list but that they are still "paring down the number preparatory to scheduling phone interviews." (10/11) (x4 -- unsolicited, and thanks to those wishing good luck. 12/11) * * Did you solicit this information? Has anyone else who hadn't heard from RWU, then, received a similar e-mail? * * I just received rejection email similar to above, non solicited. God luck!!!! * * Still nothing either way... Maybe they forgot me? (x6 - ARGH! This is killing me!) * * Glad to know it's not just me, at least! * * Got a rejection email this afternoon. this rolling rejection thing is cruel! (12/11) X2 -- considering the number of apps they had, they handled this search cordially and professionally. Can't tell you how many jobs I've applied for where I heard ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Good luck to all interviewees, this looks like a rewarding position. * * Is anyone still waiting on news one way or the other? * * Yes! (12/14) (x11) * * Phone interview invite via email. (12/18) * * congratulations! are you one of the posters who received the "long list" emails?[A: Yes. 12/18] are there other people out there still in limbo? * * Totally in limbo. I never received an acknowledgment of my application, or at least I don't think I did. I've also not received a rejection letter or a note indicating that I'm on any list, long or short. 12/18 (x5 - although did receive ack) * * This search has more red flags on it than a Communist car dealership. Something is not right. 12/18 * * FWIW, this job ran two years ago and either they didn't end up filling it or the person ran... This is a *very* conservative school (googling will turn up the various scandals over the previous few years involving the president etc), and has a long history of violating tenure procedure... be prepared to hire a lawyer if you want promotion (this is also public info, the NE Teachers Association has a union that has dealt extensively with these issues). Then again... any port in a storm? * * I'm not in for this job, but I wanted to say that the "Communist car dealership" line is the best one that I've seen on the wiki in 4 years. (12/18) * * So, the person who got the interview was previously told that he or she was on a "long list." As I never heard anything from this school, not even a request to fill out an affirmative action card, I seriously suspect that they lost my application and perhaps those of others. Anyone else coming to this conclusion? Have any of those who have heard nothing contacted the search chair? I hate to sound paranoid and fully admit that I thought emailing applications to the search chair was a bad idea. I certainly wouldn't want 200-400 emails with attachments filling my inbox. That sounds like a recipe for disaster. 12/20 (X2) * * not sure if this helps, but i have neither been rejected nor received a long-list notice or request for an interview, but i DID receive an ack and a request to fill out affirmative action/equal opp info. is it possible that the applications were split up among members of the committee, and they are not acting as a group yet? perhaps each committee member is proceeding on his or her own timeline for now?? is that unheard of??? * * That would mean that they committee did not decide as a group to extend a request for an interview to the person above. Very odd and, I hope, unlikely. All in all, the search sounds very disorganized. It's hard to judge from the wiki source alone, but I think we're in a Communist car dealership. * * Just FYI everyone (and re: inquiries into the previous job search for this position), the individual who held this position last time - and presumably was their last hire in it when they ran the search a few years back - studies American religion, popular culture, and liberalism and left for Univ. of Virginia in 2008. So, it was a step up as well as a step out. Whether that's a comment on the dept. as a whole or this search, who knows... * * The faculty member who held this position previously left for a dream job, as suggested above. (12/22) * * They also ran a VAP search last Spring with basically the same description although I have no idea if the VAP has an inside track. (12/22) * * Still haven't heard anything beyond the acknowledgment. * * Ditto (12/28) * * Any news? I still haven't heard anything. They probably lost my application. (x3) * * A friend of mine who works for human resources at a bank told me to contact the RWU human resources department and ask why I never received an affirmative action card. That might get the department in a snit. She also told me to notify the proper government channels to inform them that RWU is not filing affirmative action paperwork for all of its applications. If RWU doesn't comply with the law it can lose whatever federal funding it receives. I'm giving this serious thought. * * Getting the federal government involved seems a little extreme. * * I agree with the poster above that contacting the gov't seems a little extreme. Why not just email the SC and ask what's up? I would guess that you are on some kind of long alternate list. (1/12) * * The federal government bit was a joke. Sorry for the confusion. * * I sent numerous emails regarding my application. I received various and contradictory explanations for why I had not been contacted. Also, no explanation of why I never received so much as an acknowledgment of my application. (1/14) * * Any news on this one? (1/25) * * Phone interviews should finish this week; campus visit invitations to follow in the next week. (1/26) * * Rejection received (1/27)- x3: they've pared down the list and are doing interviews; no info in the email about # of applicants or any other details. * * E-mail or snail? - Email * * There were 400+ applicants and ten phone interviews, they told me. During the interview they asked specifically about how I fit any of the three specific areas they were looking for. The committee was also big on picking somebody who could teach both Am Studies and History. (1/27) * * Geeze! I've not heard one way or the other. Has anyone else *not* heard? * * Me! I haven't heard anything. I can teach both American Studies & History! Come on people! - Ok, well, never mind. Rejection email received today (1/28) * * No offense to the person who got the interview and was so kind as to leak some information, but this search was totally unprofessional and disorganized. They lost your applications, just like they lost mine. Don't waste anymore time thinking about this place. The way they conducted this search speaks to how they run their department. Breathe a huge sigh of relief and move on. * * Had to ask for it, but: rejection received via e-mail today (1/28). I think they lost my application and couldn't admit to it. * * Campus invite in the subjunctive. "If this search had not been frozen..." (2/10) * * Has the search been cancelled? * * Yepper. (2/11) * * Oh, that's awesome. That opens a whole new world of alternate-timeline, subjunctive reality rejection letters: "Dear Candidate: Had the profession not chosen an unsustainable and self-destructive model of Ph.D. overproduction, and had multiple decades of short-sighted politicking not eroded state support for education in the public sector as a whole, and if a massive economic disaster not swept the rug out from underneath everyone's house of cards, you would have been our first choice." I better buy a new, imaginary suit for those subjunctive interviews. (2/12, after happy hour) * Rutgers University - Newark U.S. History, Assistant Professor * teaching and writing that will contribute to Rutgers’ new Ph.D. program in American Studies. Particular interest in critical sexuality studies/ queer history, legal history, or U.S. Latino history. * * Ack. materials received (9/21) * * Anyone know the teaching load here? * * 2-2 load * * someone i know got a request for writing samples and syllabi * * ack. materials received (10/12) * * this would not be me (10/12) (x3) - me too - I call bullshit on the above, given that the deadline was only on 10/10 (10/14) * * I posted the above and you can can "call bullshit" all you want, but it won't make my statement any less true (10/14) * * ASA Interview scheduled (10/27) * * I'd be interested to know if they really are interested in legal history for this hire. The other possible fields and the fact that they're interviewing at ASA suggests to me a somewhat different direction. (Just a hunch, of course.) (10/28) * * Any campus interviews scheduled yet? (11/17) * * A friend of mine got a campus job talk, does queer and black contemporary urban history (11/07) * * Looks like I might have been right about the legal history angle (or lack thereof). (11/18) * * Offer extended 12/09 * * Announced in a panel at AHA: hire is Whitney Strub, Ph.D. UCLA, formerly at Temple University; works on history of pornography regulation in the US. Congratulations (x2). * * They made 2 hires * * Who was the other hire? What field? University of Texas - Arlington position in the history of migration on the level of assistant professor * * Deadline December 4, 2009 * * ack. materials received, "search committee plans to conduct interviews at the annual meeting of the American Historical Association. If you are selected for an interview the committee will contact you in early December to schedule a meeting." Attached AA/EO form via snail mail (12/10) * * Has anyone heard anything? (12/23) * * AHA interviews scheduled (12/23) * * Snail mail rejection (1/22) * * Offer accepted (3/4) * * Who's the lucky candidate? * * Is there a reason that so many posters do not acknowledge the name of the person who accepted the job? As a job seeker wondering how I match up to those who are getting these jobs, it is actually quite useful to have the winner's name and so I can google them and find out more about their professional accomplishments. (3/8) * University of Wisconsin, Green Bay * United States and the World * * Focus on democracy and justice * * Deadline: December 15 2009 * * This is either a joint-appointment or an appointment in the Social Change and Development Program. It doesn't seem to be a History appointment (11/15) * * Has anybody received any communication at all? * * Ack. email today. (1/6) * * Same here (2) * * Rec'd email to schedule an interview (01/22) x 2 * * Was the invitation for a phone interview or are they moving straight to on-campus interviews? (1/24) * * Phone interview (01/22) * * Received email to schedule on campus interview. (02/03) * Boise State Assistant Professor, US gender/public history * * Deadline November 1, 2009 * * Anyone know the teaching load here? * * What is the deal with the gender component? The AHA listing does not mention gender, and the H Net listing only has it in the title. Any thoughts? * * I spoke with the search committee chair - it is a position in Gender and public history (not necessarily combined - but the successful candidate will be able to teach public history and courses on gender). * * At a recent conference a rumor circulated that this might be an inside hire...someone there may already be teaching these courses, even though they don't appear on the website. (10/12) * * Email ack. received 2 (11/5) * * Contacted for interview. All first round interviews are going to be done via video-conferencing in mid-December. (12/1) x 4 * * Were you contacted by phone or by email? (12/2) * * contacted via email (12/2) * * So, was gender history the primary factor in this search? (12/6) * * Don't know. I have gender and public. (12/6) * * I hear they got over 250 apps for this position. (12/16) * * Invited for on-campus interview. (1/14) * * Offer made (and I'm pretty sure) accepted (3/12) * University of Hawaii at Hilo / Assistant Professor / U.S. history * Deadline December 1, 2009 * * Is this the same job advertised last year? Last year's Wiki had some posts implying that Hilo often advertises but never hires. * * It seemed as if they had made a hire. A new faculty member was listed in the faculty page at the start of the fall semester but then taken off that list. Yet that person is still listed as teaching for the department. It was confusing then as it is now. Anybody knows what exactly might be going on? (12/4) * * So...is it the same job? * * Has anyone heard anything from them yet? Confirmation of receipt of app? Anything? (12/14) * * Nothing here (4) * * Just got an email from the EEO with a link to their diversity survey. They're just now getting around to this? (1/25) x4 * * Received letter acknowledging receipt of application (1/29) ditto (2/8) * * Has anybody sent an application and not receive an email link to the survey? 1/29 (x2) * * I wonder if the delay has anything to do with the battle between the UH union and university/governor regarding pay cuts. Could there have been a temporary hold on hires until that mess got sorted out? I sent my application with delivery confirmation, so I know they got it, but have not heard a peep. (1/30). * * Received email with link to diversity survey, obviously doing this in waves. (2/4) * * Hopefully it's alphabetically (I'm an "R") or at random. * * I'm in the middle of the alphabet and I got mine today (2/5). * * I finally got mine today! (2/8). * * I still haven't heard anything - diversity survey or otherwise. (2/14) * * Received a letter asking for additional materials (2/5)(x2) * * was it just the letter acknowledging receipt of your application stating that they were missing some materials on the checklist, or was it materials beyond that? * * In my case, they were missing the "teaching competence" documents. They did not ask materials beyond that (2/19) * * Any word at all? * * Nothing since the confirmation letter (3/13) * I emailed the search committee chair about ten days ago asking about the status of the search. I did not receive any response. (4/8) * Is it safe to say this search is not going? It's already April! (4/16) * Invitation to phone interview received via email (4/22) * Received rejection letter (forget exact date, around 5/28). Our field is starting to make HR for federal government positions seem downright sprightly. * Wheaton College (Illinois)) -- U.S. History with world history expertise (assistant OR associate level) * Deadline November 1, 2009 * * Received email acknowledgment shortly after deadline, but no additional news (11/20) * * Rejection letter (12/7 X 2) * * Was the rejection letter in the mail or email? I haven't gotten anything yet (12/19) * * They pretty much canceled this search pretty late in the process to focus instead on hiring a new department chair at a more senior level. (12/23) * Yeshiva University - Assistant Professor, American History * Deadline November 15 * * Any pre-Thanksgiving news? * * Nope. No ack, no nada. Then again, materials sent 9 November. I'm thinking small department + applicant deluge = long wait on processing. (11/25) * * Email ack. (11/25) (x4) * * Anyone got news on this search? If AHA interviews are on, they should be notifying soon, right? (12/11) * * The ad was so broad that they must be sifting through a mountain of applications. * * Request for interview at AHA (or Yeshiva one day prior to AHA) via email 12/13. * * Congrats! Purely out of curiosity, would you mind indicating specializations? (12/13) * * 19th century U.S; women's and gender history; legal history * * Received rejection noting that due to 175 apps, they looked exclusively at pre-Civil War applicants. (Initial listing cited preference for 'pre-20th-century history'; so much for the GAPE.) (1/13) * * Interesting. I also received a rejection email, although because I'm an 18th century historian they simply stated that they had to "eliminate many fine scholars from consideration." Knew several people with AHA interviews, so I was hardly surprised. (1/13) * * Has anyone heard about campus visits? * * Received notice that I was not invited to campus, but I know someone who is invited. (1/21) * * Anything new here? Have they made a hire yet? (3/23) * * Hired Douglas R. Burgess, PhD Brown University * Cal State Long Beach/ Assistant/Associate Professor U.S. History * Isn't this a World History job? (11/1) * * This one says: "Job open until filled (or recruitment cancelled.)" Wow, thanks for reminding me that the world sucks. * * Unless I missed something, this is a South Asian history position. Is there a US history position at CSU-LB too? * Misericordia University, Assistant Professor of American History * Anyone hear from them or know what the time frame is? (12/10) * * received an equal employment postcard several days ago (12/10) * * Deadline was December 7. Has anyone heard anything? (12/8) * * Phone request for an interview at AHA (12/19) * * Phone interview (12/22) * * Contacted for on-campus interview (1/14) * University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg, Assistant Professor of United States History * Deadline was December 1. Has anyone heard anything? (12/8) * * Yes. Last week I got an acknowledgment letter (dated 11/30) telling me that my application was not yet complete. It also expressed that, despite what the original ad stated, they will not be conducting AHA interviews (this seems to be trend among many of the schools to which I applied) and will instead hold phone interviews. No indication of when that might happen though. 12/10 * * Phone call to set up a phone interview (1/13)---they said they had 293 applications * * On Campus interview set up (1/28) * * Offer extended and accepted (3/9) * Upper Iowa, Assistant Professor of US History (generalist) * Any news on this search? (1/29) * Johnson County Community College, Assistant Professor of U.S. History * Deadline was Jan. 11 * * Interviewed at the AHA; have not received word as of 1/20 * * Just to clarify: you interviewed at the AHA for the JCCC job?--Yes, interviewed at the AHA. According to rumor, they've had over 100 applications. * * Got email requesting phone interview (1/29) x2 * * Contacted for on-campus interview * * Offer made (in negotiations) (3/13) * U Texas Pan-Am, Lecturer – 3 Yr Renewable (2 Positions - U.S History) * * Deadline 15 Jan * * Any news? * * Almost a month since the deadline. Anybody hear anything--interviews, requests for additional materials, and so on? (2/12) * * I applied for this same position last year and didn't hear one single word from them (2/19) * * One of the final candidates has a degree in medieval history and no fields in American history . . . odd (2/25) * * Anyone else hear anything on this position? Interviews, rejections, rumor? (3/1) * * Offers went out, inside candidate (medievalist w/no American fields) received (& accepted) one offer. Clearly not a great place to work. (3/8) * Appalachian State University, history and social studies education * * Any news on this? (1/30) * University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Assistant Professor of US Cultural History * * Deadline was Feb. 1 * * Any news here? * * Received acknowledgment letter last week; said that approximately three weeks after deadline "you should receive word about whether or not your application is still being considered."
