The current station, which was designed by W.N. Ashbee was opened by the Great Eastern Railway on Monday 27 February 1888, replacing a station further to the east which dated from the opening of the branch line from Broxbourne in 1843. It is on the Hertford East Branch of the West Anglia Main Line, and train services are provided by Greater Anglia. There are two platforms, one of which is generally only used at peak times. In addition, the station also boasts both a station kiosk and a taxi service.
