The banished prince, however, did not flinch, and Zuko's smart remarks angered Gow even more. When the salesman of the town gave Zuko the bags of feed he had purchased, Gow quickly stepped in and took the bags away, thanking Zuko for "his contribution" and saying that "the army appreciated his support". Gow turned to warn Zuko to leave town, saying that the "penalty for staying was a lot steeper than [he] could afford."
- Gow en zijn groep vielen de inwoners van een dorp lastig. Ze kwamen hiermee weg omdat ze zeiden dat ze Aarderijk soldaten waren. Toen Zuko het dorpje binnenkwam stalen ze zijn eten en beschuldigden hem van dingen die hij niet had gedaan. Zuko deed er echter niets op uit en Gow waarschuwde hem dat het verstandiger was als hij het dorp weer zou verlaten. Later leidde Gow zijn groepje soldaten naar Gansu's huis, en vertelde de boer dat zijn oudste zoon, Sensu, gevangen was genomen. Hij begon de familie te pesten maar trok zich terug toen Zuko hem bedreigde. Later ontvoert Gow Lee, Gansu's jongste zoon, omdat Lee een mes trok waar Gow bij was. Hij dreigde de jongen te dwingen deel te worden van het aarderijk leger. Zijn moeder vroeg Zuko om Lee te helpen, en Zuko besluit dat ook te doen.
