The unnamed Customer called into Biddulph's newsagents for his fix of Everton Mints that he needed after he had giving up smoking. The shop had been bought by Len Fairclough and was undergoing a refit (prior to its new incarnation as The Kabin). Amidst the chaos, the man offered to look for his sweets himself and turned down Ray Langton’s offer of a cigarette. Rita Littlewood, on the warpath because of the way that Len was treating her, poured half a pound of the mints into his hands and told him that as they had no bags, he could have them for free.
