  • Cao Cao (; Old Chinese IPA: zluː shaːws or zluː shaːw; 155 – 15 March 220), 孟德, modern Chinese pronunciation is Mengde while for Old Chinese its IPA was mraːŋs tɯːɡ) was a warlord and the penultimate of the Eastern Han Dynasty who rose to great power in the final years of the dynasty. As one of the central figures of the Three Kingdoms period, he laid the foundations for what was to become the state of Cao Wei and was posthumously honoured as "Emperor Wu of Wei". Although he is often portrayed as a cruel and merciless tyrant, Cao Cao has also been praised as a brilliant ruler and military genius who treated his subordinates like his family. He was also skilled in poetry and martial arts and wrote many war journals.

  • Cao Cao is one of the many antagonists within Highschool DxD, being the former leader of the Hero Faction, a subgroup of the Khaos Brigade and the descendant of Cao Cao. Prior to the events in the series, Cao Cao had made contact with Indra and Sun Wukong, later becoming Indra's vanguard. He has been shown to be charismatic, manipulative and believes that it's his responsibility to destroy beings that aren't human. In addition, he has eyes like his ancestor that can find people with good potential and considers them valuable talents. However, he only accepts other humans who have Sacred Gears.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms, a historical novel by Luo Guanzhong, was a romanticization of the events that occurred during the Three Kingdoms period. While adhering to historical facts most of the time, the novel inevitably re-shaped Cao dramatically to some extent, so as to portray him as a cruel and suspicious villain. In some chapters, Luo created fictional or semi-fictional events involving Cao. They include:

  • Cao Cao (onyomi: Sō Sō) was the Chancellor of the Han Dynasty who laid the foundations for the future kingdom of Wei. A clean-cut, tall, and crafty individual, Cao Cao excelled in war and politics. He was loved and feared for his perceptiveness and swift retaliations. Chen Shou commented that he was a leader who possessed a unique mindset and was a timeless hero. Romance of the Three Kingdoms famously villainizes him to be a hot-blooded, sly, yet occasionally dumbfounded schemer who sometimes survived his hardships on luck alone. His legitimate successor is Cao Pi, born from his consort Bianshi. Xiahou Dun, Xiahou Yuan, Cao Ren, and Cao Hong are his well-known cousins.
