Lovingly dubbed the "Scarlet Witch," Scarlet is a planet of extremes--warmth and cold, wind and dead calms, high mountains and low plains. The Genoshans that arrived at Scarlet settled different parts of the planet, and as a result, it is now the training center for the Genoshan military--the extremes do more for the prospective soldiers than ten years of training. The influx of the military, of course, also precludes a rise in the economy. Scarlet also has the best shipyards the Genoshans have to offer.

Scarlet is a military theocracy, but not many people know what that means. It means, quite simply, that the inhabitants are more fervent in their belief in the Genoshan Right than others. Even before they were aware of the Lineans, they believed that whatever was inside the Linean Nebula was evil, and had to be destroyed. This, obviously, puts them at odds with the Lineans, and is a prime reason for their military build-up. Wanda and Pietro Maximoff are the head of the Brotherhood of Superior, and subsequently are the rulers of the planet.
