Barr and Stroud was founded by Archibald Barr and William Stroud as a limited company in 1913, but they began development work as early as 1888. Barr and Stroud rangefinders were sold world wide and were used almost universally in the Royal Navy during World War II. Barr & Stroud also produced fire control instruments and a range of commercial products, such as binoculars.
