Vem'ir was the fourth planet in the Tyolo star system, located in the Orion Neutrality Area, in the Alpha or the Beta Quadrant. It had three moons and was a class M world. It was the site of an Orion Colony and was known as the "Feet of Orion Industry" since its mines fueled the Colonies. It had a technological/sociopolitical index of 999974-74 and a planetary trade profile of GABFDGH/B(A).

abstract
  • Vem'ir was the fourth planet in the Tyolo star system, located in the Orion Neutrality Area, in the Alpha or the Beta Quadrant. It had three moons and was a class M world. It was the site of an Orion Colony and was known as the "Feet of Orion Industry" since its mines fueled the Colonies. The planet was the homeworld of the Calids, Treaty of Kammzdast signatories who dominated Orion slaves. Calid civilization was in a state of decline since ancient times, even before the Orion War broke out in 94 BCE (reference stardate −20/9401.03) and liberated the Orions. The Calids survived, however, and even survived the later Reverse that devastated Orion civilization. Though commerce dropped off, the Orion population of Vem'ir chose to stay through these times. This decision paid off by the time of the First Orion Registry of 1301 CE (stardate −7/0101), when the planet was restored to full production. Following the Four Years War (c. 2250s) and the foundation of the Orion Neutrality Area, Vem'ir became the Orions' biggest remaining mining planet, and thus its most important. Production went through the roof in the late 23rd century. Vem'ir's major industry was mining, and every one of its population of over 2 billion Orions was employed either in the mines or associated industries and management. The landscape of plains and rolling hills was well-suited to the mining industry, and surface works—such as shaft elevators, smelters and refineries—were clustered around the otherwise-graceful cities. It also had impressive blast pits. Vem'ir was called "the Feet of Orion Industry" since everything in the Colonies stood upon it. The world was governed by the Vem'ir Executive Council, a secretive and nearly anonymous group that met once a year and saw no one personally, no matter how vital or urgent the issue. The Council oversaw a slow and difficult bureaucracy that lumbered under the weight of its responsibilities. Though Orion corporations would typically ignore such a governmental obstruction, it was simply not possible to do so: a grand total of 1,424 businesses operated on Vem'ir, ranging from small single-hole miners to interstellar mining combines. This was far too many for them to coordinate and cooperate amongst themselves. More than anywhere in Orion society, Vem'ir was particularly chaotic. It had a technological/sociopolitical index of 999974-74 and a planetary trade profile of GABFDGH/B(A). It had a desert climate, a terrestrial atmosphere and a 27-hour day. It had a total surface area of 645,122,570 square kilometers, with 70% land mass, a total land area of 451,585,790 square kilometers. About 40% of its makeup was normal metals, 19% was radioactive elements, 20% was gemstones, 2% was special minerals, and 5% was industrial crystals.
