Sometime before 13 ABY, a single Nightsister Sith witch had somehow managed to escape her imprisonment on Dathomir and formed a small Outer Rim band of Force-using outlaws. They greatly desired the ancient Sith secrets discovered by Luke Skywalker on the planet Yavin 4, but knew that attacking while the New Jedi Order was at its strongest would have been suicide. However, when word reached them of Desann's failed attempt at attacking the academy, they decided to attack while the Jedi's forces were still weakened.

They greatly desired the ancient Sith secrets discovered by Luke Skywalker on the planet Yavin 4, but knew that attacking while the New Jedi Order was at its strongest would have been suicide. However, when word reached them of Desann's failed attempt at attacking the academy, they decided to attack while the Jedi's forces were still weakened. They took advantage of the academy's chaotic state and struck quickly in their attempt to steal the Sith secrets from the base's computer. However, they had vastly underestimated the readiness of the academy and of Kyle Katarn, who managed to repel their forces.
