  • In 2251, the Carolina was assigned to represent the Federation at a diplomatic event in the Beta Bora system. However, the Carolina was reassigned to "more critical duties", and the USS Republic was assigned the mission in its place. (TOS - My Brother's Keeper novel: Republic) In 2264, Ensign David Bailey served aboard the Carolina as a junior navigator. During his time aboard the ship he earned a number of sparkling recommendations from his commanding officer, which earned the attention of Captain James T. Kirk. (TOS - My Brother's Keeper novel: Constitution) In 2266, the Carolina was assigned to a three-year patrol of the Romulan Neutral Zone. (Decipher RPG module: Starfleet Operations Manual) In 2267, the Carolina was assigned to a sector near Capella IV. At that time the Klingons sent a faked distress call from the Carolina to the USS Enterprise in an attempt to draw the starship away from Capella IV. (TOS episode: "Friday's Child") Note: The Star Trek Encyclopedia states that the Carolina was a Daedalus-class starship with a registry number of NCC-160 or NCC-235. However, it was stated in the TNG episode, "Power Play", that all Daedalus-class vessels were decommissioned in the 2190s. The only Daedalus to be in service at this time was the USS Lovell. Note: The registry of the Carolina is the same as the Bonaventure.
