In April 1971 Stan Ogden was working as a nightwatchman at Hulmes Bakery where most of the time he fell asleep on the job in the back of one of the vans. Ray Langton got to hear of this and went along to the bakery one night, located Stan's van, locked him in and drove him to a patch of deserted land on a croft on Harper Street. Ray then left him there and made his way back home. The unnamed Policeman and his colleague drove onto the croft where they heard Stan pummelling on the back door and let him out. Seeing no one else around, they asked him to take a breathalyser test. Stan passed but was called back to the station the next day to give a statement. His employers were told of the event and Stan was sacked.
