- The series focused less on the conventional drama of domestic life as seen in other soap operas and more on exotic melodrama between families of different classes and philosophies. It was the first soap opera to do a crossover (with one of the characters from the soap opera "Guiding Light") and the first soap opera to expand to one hour, then 90 minutes and then back to an hour. "Aonther World" also became the first soap opera to launch two spin-off series "Somerset" and "Texas" along with an indirect spin-off "Lovers and Friends" (later named "For Richer, For Poorer").
