Bulgaria’s National Broadband Strategy for 2010 was approved by its Cabinet in November 2009 and will fund high-speed Internet access projects in 26 smaller cities (with about 20,000 residents each). Half of the strategy’s projects will be funded through the government’s Operational Program for Regional Development; private-sector partners will fund the other half. Initially, priority will be given to business investment projects in smaller towns and villages. The broadband strategy encourages the use of online medical, legal and educational services.
